Alexandria House Mission

Alexandria House is a transitional residence and house of hospitality for women and children in need. Located in mid-city Los Angeles, it provides safe and supportive housing to single women and women with children in the process of moving from emergency shelter to permanent housing. Alexandria House also responds to community needs, and provides a gathering place for residents and neighbors alike. Alexandria House is consciously anti-racist and committed to creating a community with the values of mutuality, dignity and respect.

 

Description of Alexandria House Walk-athon

Alexandria House is partnering with Mount St. Mary's University, CSJ Institute, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to host a 5K Walkathon called "A Mile (Or More) In Her Shoes."

The current political climate, the attacks on women on a global scale, as well as the local and federal neglect to protect women and children in poverty call for a time for us to unite as a community. Join us, Alexandria House and MSMU, to raise awareness and support for women and children who are homeless.

ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD ARRIVE BETWEEN 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM TO CHECK-IN AT REGISTRATION AND RECEIVE YOUR WALKERS PACKET.

 

When you arrive on-site, please check in at the REGISTRATION TABLE at the Chapel. After registration/check-in, you will be given your bib, safety pins, and a raffle ticket.



Parking & Public Transportation

*Due to MSMU’s weekend college there will be limited parking. We are HIGHLY encouraging folks to arrive early, carpool, or take public transportation

Security and Safety

Overall: Although we have a designated security team, we all should follow these safety practices to ensure that our community members can participate in the 5k and have a safe and fun experience!

 

 

I.        Personal Safety
          1. Make sure to eat breakfast or bring a snack with you.
          2. Dress lightly for the hot weather (forecast is 76℉ high), wear sunscreen, and wear a hat
          3. You’ll be outside for at least an hour or more, with little to no shade from the
          4. Continuously DRINK WATER, it’s going to be a hot day and dehydration has a delayed onset; meaning your body will become dehydrated before you feel or realize you’re dehydrated. So again continuously DRINK WATER
 II.      Participant Safety
          1. Be courteous and respectful of all other leads, coordinators, volunteers, and participants.
          2. Help us to ensure that each participant is easily identifiable by their race bibs before the 3k begins
                          i. If a participant does not have a race bib, kindly ask them to retrieve one from the Registration Table
          3. DRINK WATER
, it’s going to be a hot day and we don’t want anyone fainting due to dehydration.
          4. Please stay on the sidewalk and to the right
                        i. There will be two way traffic on the route since it doubles back on the same side of the road, so please ensure that participants stay to the right as they walk/run the route
          5. Keep your eyes open for suspicious individuals, activities, behavior, actions, abnormal situations, etc.
                        i. Report all findings to the Yessenia Diaz (818.624.1418) and or Mariah Oca (916.868.7799) before taking action

 

Los Angeles Marathon

The Los Angeles Marathon will be held the same day as our walk-a-thon.  While we do not anticipate interference, that all depends on where you are coming from.  Please take a look at their page to see if you need to alter your travel plans to Mount Saint Mary's University, Doheny Campus.
