Lima Smith Dubroy wants to volunteer 2018-03-31 08:00:18 -0700
At Alexandria House, our volunteers are a treasured part of our community. Together we laugh, cook, eat, play, and work as we help women and children in need.
Over the years, volunteers have taught art classes, provided counseling, driven residents to appointments, created on-site gardens, led writing workshops, took our children to the beach, and so much more. Our Top Chefs gather family and friends to cook weeknight meals for our residents, while energetic organizers join us to set up our monthly Thrift Sale. Whether you come once a week, once a month, or once a year, we need your enthusiasm, compassion, and unique talents.
The following are among our most pressing needs:
- Monday - Thursday nights 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Volunteers help supervise up to 20 kids ranging in ages 1 to 13 years old. They must be willing to take charge and organize activities. Ideally, the Alexandria House staff would be supported by 3 volunteers each evening.
- Monday - Thursday 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Volunteers experienced in working with toddlers and children up to age 4 are needed to support our child care staff.
AFTER SCHOOL AND TEEN PROGRAM
- Monday - Friday 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Our K-5 After-School and Teen Programs need volunteers to help children (5-18) with homework, reading activities, and enrichment projects. Volunteers should be at least high school age, but we will consider mature middle school students. Spanish speakers are especially needed. Please contact us to find out more about volunteering.
For all new Alexandria House volunteers, we ask that you first attend an orientation. We have volunteer orientations twice a month on the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm and the following Sunday at 10:30am. Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Anh Le (Michele@alexandriahouse.org), to confirm the date. She can also answer any questions you may have regarding volunteering opportunities. Thank you!
